"Pawn's Gambit"

A review by Richard Emmel

It's been a few days since we saw Bruce's play and we just spent two days riding Amtrak to Boston. Being naturally forgetful and now Amtraked, I will do my best to describe a delightful Eureka excursion.

Bruce invited Mensans to see his play and help the kids of Eureka Springs. I am not a chess player and thus will not be able to tell you how Bruce used chess to help one understand his unique whodoneit.

The play begins with the aforementioned chess game between two friends who were actually enemies. One friend was a doctor who killed the other man with a poisonous inoculation. The other man dies but leaves the necessary evidence to convict the doctor for murder.

The two antagonists got themselves into trouble because of a women. She was married to the first man who was also very wealthy but she loved the doctor.

Bruce used many literary tools to write his play and that got your attention along with watching his interesting plot unfold. It was neat watching Bruce sign autographs after the performance.

Oh yes, Bruce managed to keep his 2- year old grandson's attention and perform a leading role at the same time. Now back to the pleasures of my grandfatherhood.
